2026 playoff trip planning

MLB postseason venue guide

You have the ticket. Now make the whole trip work.

Check the game, pack for the right park, choose your arrival and plan the journey home. Start with the checklist, then use the official shortcuts for your ballpark.

Official sources reviewed October 10, 2026 · Independent FanProof guide

Before you buy or book

Four decisions that protect the trip.

01

Match the game before committing to the trip

Write down the round, series game number, home-game label, venue, date and time zone. “Home Game 1” is not necessarily “Series Game 1.” If the date or first pitch is still TBD, keep travel flexible and verify again before leaving.

02

Read the unplayed-game terms at checkout

An “if necessary” game may never happen. Check your seller’s terms for an unplayed game, a date change and a postponement. Verify parking separately. Do not assume a ticket refund also covers a flight, hotel or independently booked garage.

03

Buy the seat you will actually use

Check the exact section, row, obstructions and whether the listing is standing room. Compare the full cost for your group, including checkout fees and transport. An inexpensive ticket loses its value if a child cannot see, someone cannot stand for the game, or the trip home fails.

04

Resolve the phone and transfer problem at home

Sign in, link the correct ticket account and open each ticket before traveling. Use the team’s accepted mobile-ticket method. If your group arrives separately, complete transfers in advance; if one phone holds everything, agree to enter together. Charge the phone and verify whether your battery pack is permitted.

MLB Ballpark supports ticket access and forwarding. Use an accepted ticket, not a screenshot as your backup.

Go straight to your park

Five park-specific planning checks.

These October checks pair a verified rule with a practical next step. Follow the current event instructions for gate times, ceremonies, weather decisions and any policy changes.

Milwaukee Brewers · Milwaukee, WI

American Family Field

Your regular-season bargain may not exist in October.

The $5 Uecker seats are unavailable for postseason games.

Your next step

Price the actual postseason seat and parking together. If driving, secure a game-specific pass and save the lot approach before leaving.

Los Angeles Dodgers · Los Angeles, CA

Dodger Stadium

Plan the bus home before you explore after the game.

Dodger Express is free. Union Station return service ends 45 minutes after the final out or 20 minutes after postgame events.

Your next step

Choose Union Station or South Bay before booking your stay. Check the connection after the shuttle, especially if your journey continues by regional train.

Tampa Bay Rays · St. Petersburg, FL

The Trop

Do not drive up expecting to buy stadium parking.

Postseason parking at Tropicana Field is prepaid only; no drive-up sales. Use the Rays’ listed downtown overflow options if stadium parking sells out.

Your next step

Route to St. Petersburg and the exact lot entrance on your pass. Check the venue on the ticket rather than reusing an older Tampa itinerary.

A train nearby is only useful if your return works.

RTA lists Red, Blue and Green Line access via Tower City, with a walkway toward the ballpark. Check current alerts and your specific return line.

Your next step

Pick the return line and a backup pickup point in advance. Confirm the event’s gate-opening time instead of carrying over a summer weekend schedule.

A clear backpack can still be the wrong bag.

CTA’s Red Line Sox-35th stop is one block east of the ballpark. Review service alerts and the route from your hotel or home.

Measure the actual bag, then check its shape. If taking a regional train, verify its last departure separately from the CTA portion of your trip.

Pack once, check twice

A clear bag is not a universal pass.

If traveling with luggage, arrange storage before the game. A medical exception needs its own check; do not substitute the ordinary bag summary. Verify permitted food and water separately before packing snacks for the whole group.

From the front door to the last out

Work backward from your seat. Then plan beyond it.

Before leaving

Check the team’s event email, local forecast and travel alerts. Save your lot entrance or station route, gate, seat and a meeting point. For access needs, confirm the entire route: parking or drop-off, screening, elevators and seating.

At the ballpark

FanProof planning suggestion: aim to reach the ballpark area 90–120 minutes before first pitch on a first postseason visit. Allow more for tailgating or ceremonies. This is a buffer, not a promised gate-opening time. Count the walk, screening, food and route to your seat.

After the final out

Choose the return station, shuttle stop or permitted pickup point before the game. Check the connection after the stadium service. Avoid a tight final train, flight or pickup commitment; agree on a backup if the game or exit takes longer.

Extra innings deserve an exit backup.

Postseason extra innings do not start with an automatic runner on second base. Build flexibility into the ride home.

MLB postseason extra-innings explanation (opens in a new tab)

For an outdoor game, pack permitted layers and rain protection for the seated part of the evening. At a roofed park, check the team’s roof and event guidance; your walk and wait outside still need a weather plan. A forecast alone does not establish a postponement—look for the team’s announcement.
